a friendly round machined-end surface of the support ring could help the friction bolt attach tightly with the bearing plate no matter from which directions, its another end surface was designed to fit the ring of friction bolt and could sit on the ring properly, usually be attached onto the friction bolt by glue to avoid the moving and missing during assemble.
The support ring normally was made by mild steel, and treated by zinc plating or galvanizing.
